The Willows Homework Support
What is it?
A program that provides a positive, caring environment for children of families in both the church congregation and the broader community who are struggling at school or who have difficulty in completing their homework due to lack of an appropriate space or the need of assistance. Students receive either individual or small group support and have access to computers and the internet.
Who are we?
A group of volunteers who are interested in the welfare and education of young people. The group is diverse and includes retired teachers, lecturers, nurses, professionals and trades people. We also have a partnership with the Teach Outreach program at Newcastle University so have some teacher trainees. All have filled in the required documentation to enable them to work with children.
When is it held?
Wednesday afternoon in school terms from 3:30–5pm.
Can you help?
We are always looking for new tutors to assist. Tutors do not have to be trained teachers just people who have a rapport with children and would be able to assist students with homework particularly reading.
