Caves Beach Uniting Church services celebrated in 2020
One of the most bitter areas where people and different churches get into dispute is over how to interpret the Bible.
One thing that I have learned is that it is sometimes hard to get people to agree which is the most appropriate verse to describe our Christian faith.
It seems to me that sometimes we almost tend to give up our authenticity for fear of ridicule by outsiders.
We are confronted with the knowledge that we don’t have any monopoly on insights into God and the experience of God.
Anyone who delves into this story with just a modern scientific approach can be in for a very confusing time
Pentecost - Acts 2:1-21 - 31st May 2020 - It must be a very frightening thing to be somewhere when you don't know the local language or understand the culture.
Trinity - 7th June 2020 Genesis 1:1-2:4a, Psalm 8 & 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 - The Trinity is a concept (doctrine) not a set of simple facts so it is not easy to explain.
Pentecost 2 - 14th June 2020, Matthew 9:35- 10:8, (9-23), Romans 5:1-8, Psalm 116:1-2; 12-19 & Genesis 18:1-15, (21:1-7) - However what he did do was touch the untouchable, loved the unlovable and reach out to the outcast all the time proclaiming God’s unlimited love and hospitality for the broken and the isolated.
Don’t be afraid. - Pentecost 3 - 21st June 2020, Genesis 2:8-21, Psalm 86:1-18, Romans 6:1b-11 & Matthew 10:24-39 - Yes, there are things to be afraid of, but Jesus tells us not to be afraid because the truth always ends up being exposed.
God is love - Pentecost 4 - 28th June 2020, Genesis 22:1-14, Psalm 13, Romans 6:12-23 & Matthew 10:40-42 - but God’s love is also tough, demanding and uncomfortable.
